Laboratory diagnostics

A clinical examination of a patient. Qualitative analysis gives 70% of the information for the correct diagnosis. It affects results of treatment and patients' rehabilitation time.

The benefits of medical testing at GVM International:

The patients at GVM International benefit from a fully automated laboratory to perform all types of routine lab testing, plus a wide range of specialized testing.  Our laboratory utilizes state of the art instrumentation, computerization and quality compliance.   For your convenience, our on-site highly skilled and registered staff produces diagnostic testing and interpretation in a timely manner to assist your physician in your healthcare needs.

Medical tests delivery procedure

Laboratory diagnostics in GVM International is most adapted to the needs of a patient. At specialized medical consultation a patient gets an appointment card with which he or she can refer to the medical procedures room. Taking tests within the same medical facility eliminates the possibility of error. All consumables needed for analysis are included into the price. When results ready, they immediately go to the treating physician that minimizes the time from consultation to treatment.

Biological material sampling

Blood test

As far as possible, it is recommended to take a blood test in the morning from 08:00 to 10:00, in the fasted state (not less than 8 hours and no more than 14 hours of bowel rest, drinking – water in usual regime) and avoid overeating the day before blood tests.

If you take some medicines, you should consult your doctor as to the reasonability of tests during the period of medicine taking or as to the possibility to cancel medicines before tests; duration of cancellation shall be determined by the period of medicine excretion from blood.

Alcohol shall be excluded the day before laboratory tests.

Smoking shall be avoided at least during 1 hour before laboratory tests.

Exclude physical and emotional stresses the day before laboratory tests.

It is recommended to take a rest (take a seat) for 10-20 minutes after arrival to the hospital and before blood tests.

It is not recommended to conduct blood tests immediately after physiotherapeutic procedures, instrumental examinations and other medical procedures. It is recommended to postpone laboratory analysis for some days after several medical procedures (for example, biopsy of prostate gland before PSA test).

For the control of laboratory parameter over time, it is recommended to make repeated tests under the similar conditions: in the same laboratory, take blood test at the same time of the day, etc.

Urinalysis

The day before the urine test it is recommended not to eat vegetables and fruits that may change urine color (beets, carrots, etc.), and not to take diuretics.

The urine that is first voided in the morning is preferable because it is the most concentrated.

The best sample for analysis is collected in a sterile container after the external genitalia have been cleansed using the midstream void (clean-catch) method. This sample may be cultured if the laboratory findings indicate bacteruria.

To prevent contamination with menstrual blood, vaginal discharge, or germs from the external genitalia, it is recommended to release some urine before beginning to collect the sample.

An urine sample should be collected in an unused disposable 125 ml plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. You can find it in pharmacies. The container is sterile, it does not require pre-treatment, and it is ready to use.

Nechiporenko test

According to Nechiporenko method, the first amount of morning urine (15-20 ml) is passed, and midstream urine is placed in a prepared clean and dry container.

Urine 24-hour volume test

Urine should be collected after the external genitalia have been cleansed.

The first morning urine sample should not be collected, but note the time of the first urination. Further, collect all the urine within 24 hours from the time of the first urination to the same hour of the next day.

Collect all the urine optimally in specialized graduated plastic container of 2, 7 l.

Urinate directly into the container. After each urination tightly screw the lid. Urine can be stored in a closed container in the refrigerator on the bottom shelf, avoiding freezing.

At the end of urine collection (the last urination should be released at the same time, which is marked as the time of first urination, but in a day) the urine can be taken in the lab: shake the daily urine in a closed container, and then take 100 ml. sample in a small container for clinical analysis. It is not necessary to bring the whole amount of urine, just notify a physician about it at the Medical Center.

Zimnitsky test

To conduct a Zymnytskyi test, you have your urine collected in separate portions every three hours during day and night (8 portions together). The first morning portion of urine should be removed. Urine should be collected in different containers (50 ml) purchased at a pharmacy. Mark the time of urine collection on each container.

After urine collection the contents should be accurately measured. Mix them and immediately take a small sample to the separated container purchased at a pharmacy. Bring this container to the Medical Center for research. It is not necessary to bring the whole amount of urine, just notify a physician about it.

Urine glucose test

Collect the urine in amount of 50-100 ml or 3 portions in a day at intervals of 8 hours:

1 portion - from 8.00 to 16.00;

2 portion - from 16.00 to 24.00;

3 portion  - from 24.00 to 8.00.

Stool test

Do not arrange stool test sooner than 2 days after enema, gastrointestinal x-ray examination and colonoscopy.

Do not take any medicinal substances (except antihyperglycemic drugs and blood-thinning medications!)

including:

Avoid urine and water contact.

Postpone stool test if you have  menstruation.

Collect stool in the morning. You can do it in advance, but no more than 8 hours prior to the lab test. In this case keep it in refrigerator (but do not freeze).

Urinate before collecting the stool so that you do not get any urine in the stool sample.

The best sample for analysis should be collected in a sterile container after the external genitalia have been cleansed. Place the lid on the container and label it with your name and the date the stool was collected.

Take the sealed container to your doctor's office or the laboratory as soon as possible. You may need to deliver your sample to the lab within a certain time. Tell your doctor if you think you may have trouble getting the sample to the lab on time.

Fecal occult blood test

Avoid having meat, fish, tomatoes (eat milk-cereal food instead) 3-5 days before the test. Do not brush your teeth. Collect the stool on the fourth day in a sterile, dry container for storage and transportation.

Smear Tests: PCR, FTAT, bacterial culture of vaginal flora, mycoplasma, trichomonas, mycotic infection

ATTENTION! Avoid smear test for PCR after conducting colposcopic samples.

Urethral smear

Refrain from urinating for 1.5-2 hours before urethral smear.

Bacterial sputum culture

Sputum samples may be coughed up or induced. Samples that are coughed up are expelled into a sterile cup. Deep coughing is generally required, and the person should be informed that it is phlegm/mucus from the lungs that is necessary, not saliva. If someone cannot produce a sputum sample, then it can often be induced by following instructions provided and inhaling a sterile saline or glycerin aerosol for several minutes to loosen phlegm in the lungs. Steam inhalation or a hot shower can also be useful in loosening the phlegm. Sometimes, induction of sputum might be assisted by a respiratory therapist technician.

All samples collected should be taken to the laboratory promptly for processing while they are fresh. Sputum samples must be evaluated and accepted by the laboratory before they are processed.
