Ear injuries

Is an uncommon injury that can occur in occupational settings, sporting events, motor vehicle trauma or blast injuries, such as can happen in the military.

Symptoms:

  • Pain in the external ear

  • Swelling of the ear or an ear hematoma
  • Bruising of the ear
  • Tenderness of the ear
  • Symptoms of middle ear injury or injury to the tympanic membrane include:
  • Dizziness/vertigo
  • Bleeding coming out of the ear canal
  • Swelling of the ear canal
  • A lack of ability to hear
  • Pain inside the ear
  • Foreign body in the ear
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Symptoms of an inner ear injury include:
  • Vertigo, in which the room is spinning
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Unsteadiness
  • Unclear vision
  • Neck pain
