Endemic goitre
Is a type of goitre that is associated with dietary iodine deficiency. Some inland areas where soil and water lacks in iodine compounds and consumption of marine foods is low are known for higher incidence of goitre. In such areas goitre is said to be "endemic".
Symptoms:
- An enlarged thyroid gland, which results in a visible swelling at the base of your neck that may be especially obvious when you shave or put on makeup.
- A tight feeling in your throat.
- Difficulty swallowing.
- Coughing.
- Hoarseness.
- Difficulty breathing.
